The biblical teachings of Reformed Theology on salvation are foundational truths for the Christian life since they enable us to understand how salvation is graciously given by God from eternity past to eternity future. We are then enabled to ascribe to God all the glory due His name for the great things He has done.
This area of biblical doctrine is also called Reformed Soteriology, Calvinism (because John Calvin, 1509-1564, taught the Bible on this topic with unique clarity and a systemic fashion), the five points of Calvinism (a list of five doctrines created after Calvin's death to combat a list of five biblical errors), Augustinianism (because these teachings were already present in the church when Saint Augustine, 354-430, rebuked the errors on salvation of a theologian by the name of Pelagius). These truths are also simply called The Doctrines of Grace.
Ultimately, as the prince of preachers, Charles H. Spurgeon, once said, "Calvinism is nothing more than a nickname for Biblical Christianity", which is to say that the truths of Reformed Theology find their source and foundation in the Holy Bible.
